Planning permission for the erection of 18 affordable units on green belt land in the Surrey village of Lingfield was granted by members of Tandridge District Council's Planning Committee at the meeting held on 14th January 2010.

Normally development on green belt land would not be allowed as a matter of prinicple. However, WS Planning acting on behalf of Asprey Homes and Downland Housing Association submitted the application as a "rural excpetion" scheme, having first carried out a Housing Needs survey in the Parish of Lingfield in 2009. Prior to submission of the application a public consultaiton exercise was carried out with local people.

The proposal will provide 18 units comprising a mixture of one, two and three bed properties and will be used to house local people who are already living in Lingfield. A section 106 agreement has been signed between the Council and all relevant parties to ensure that the dwellings will remain in perpetuity for local people. Traffic calming measures will also be provided as part of the proposal.

Results of the Housing Needs Survey showed that there was an overwhelming need for affordable housing in Lingfield and whilst challenging, WS Planning are pleased to have contributed towards a project that addresses the acute affordable housing shortfall.
